Saverio Gravina (FPG) and Marie Théry (PSI) showcased the project's ambitions and its work on scandium-44 to the IHI community.

On 20–21 October 2026, Thera4Care took part in the IHI Forum 2026 in Brussels, with two poster presentations from Saverio Gravina, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS (FPG), and Marie Théry, Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).

About the IHI Forum 2026

Organised by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), this year's Forum took the theme "Translating research into long-term impact". It brought together stakeholders from across the IHI community to look at how public-private partnerships turn research into lasting outcomes for research, healthcare systems, industrial competitiveness, and EU policy. The poster session gave early career researchers from IHI and IMI projects the chance to present their work.

The Posters

"Thera4Care – From innovative radiotheranostics to a European ecosystem for personalised cancer care" Saverio Gravina, FPG

Saverio's poster gave an overview of Thera4Care and its aim of building a European ecosystem for radiotheranostics. The project

brings together work on regulation, preclinical research, radionuclide production, clinical trials, AI, dosimetry, precision imaging, and education to support personalised cancer care.

"Scandium-44 purification and its preparation towards FAP-targeted radiopharmaceuticals" Marie Théry, PSI

Marie's poster presented her work in Work Package 4 (WP4), which is establishing standardised production and labelling workflows for key radionuclides, including scandium-44. Scandium-44 is an emerging PET radionuclide. Thera4Care is exploring it as the diagnostic partner of terbium-161 in new FAP-targeted radiotheranostic pairs, with diagnostic imaging and therapy using matched agents.

Marie shared:

Two days of interesting and engaging discussions on translating research into long-term impact.

Marie is a co-author of a recent Thera4Care-funded article on this work: Unlocking the potential of scandium-44: reproducible production and radiolabelling methods towards clinical use in nuclear medicine, published in EJNMMI Radiopharmacy and Chemistry. The study describes an optimised method for producing and purifying scandium-44, achieving radionuclidic purity above 99% and a stable pH, and shows automated radiolabelling at quantities suitable for multiple patient doses.

Opportunities for Thera4Care

Taking part in the IHI Forum gave the project:

  • Visibility within the IHI community: presenting Thera4Care to IHI, industry partners, and policymakers

  • Links with other projects: networking with researchers from other IHI and IMI projects working on related challenges

  • Industry and policy dialogue: joining the discussion on how public-private research can deliver long-term impact for patients and health systems

  • A platform for early career researchers: giving Saverio and Marie the opportunity to present their work to a broad international audience

We would like to thank IHI for organising the Forum, and Saverio and Marie for representing Thera4Care.
