Thera4Care at Theranostics World Congress 2026

The Theranostics World Congress (TWC2026) took place from 29 January to 2 February 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, where many Thera4Care members were present and actively contributed to the programme. The conference aimed to unite experts from radiochemistry, radiopharmacy, nuclear medicine, oncology, emerging fields, and beyond — fostering scientific excellence and accelerating the translation of research into clinical practice in oncology. The main topics of the congress were widespread, covering many areas of relevant research.

Several presentations in the form of oral talks and poster presentations were given by the project members and once again received widespread attention on the international theranostics scene. Sergio Calvo from GEHC, Cristina Müller and Nick van der Meulen from PSI, David Kersting from UK-Essen, Irina Primac from SCKCEN, Andreas Kjær from Curasight, Rebecca Lo Bue and Alice Viana from Oncidium and Salvatore Annunziata from Gemelli/Universitá Cattolica were among the delegates representing Thera4Care.

The project coordinator, Salvatore Annunziata, reflecting on the event said, “the TWC26 gave us the chance to update on the challenges on theranostics worldwide, including but not limited to European Union, and to work in-person with Thera4Care partners on year-2 project activities”.

Sergio Calvo from the lead industry partner GE HealthCare also shared his thoughts saying, “TWC 2026 highlighted the evolution of theranostics across multiple fronts, including combination and tandem therapies, emerging radionuclides such as Tb-161, tumour microenvironment targeting (e.g., FAPI), next-generation PSMA therapies, and precision theranostics based on robust dosimetry and AI. All major themes discussed are closely aligned with the Thera4Care project.”
